Clocolan: 13 November 2024-The National Prosecuting Authority together with Ficksburg Family, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit have secured 10 years direct imprisonment each on two cases of rape and attempted rape in which the accused person, Teboho Isaac Nkeleku pleaded guilty on both cases and sentenced by Ladybrand Regional court.
On 10 June 2023 at about 19:20 the 39-year-old woman from Extension 6 Clocolan was at local tavern when Nkeleku called her outside the tavern whereby he instructed her to go with him. She refused, but he then whipped her with a stick and dragged her to a house where he raped her.
On another incident same day the 28-year-old woman from same vicinity of Clocolan reported to the police that on 10 June 2023 at about 21:00 near certain church, Clocolan she was walking from the shop near certain tavern when she noticed that accused was following her. He asked her if she had a hammer, and she said no. He told her that he was going to break into a shop. She informed him that she was going home, but he grabbed, strangled, and threatened to assault her with the bottle he was carrying. He then took the woman to his house, where he instructed her to undress but refused. He strangled and undressed her by force. Apparently, he went to the toilet to urinate, and the woman managed to escape and ran to her parent’s house. Therefore, on 23 June 2023,Teboho Isaac Nkeleku(32) was arrested and charged for rape and attempted rape cases. Whilst on trial at Ladybrand Regional court, he pleaded guilty on both cases.
On 5 November 2024, he was sentenced to 10 years direct imprisonment on both cases as they will run concurrently. The mater was decided by Ladybrand Regional court through Magistrate, Mr Mohala, and Prosecutor was Mrs Eyzel. The cases were investigated by Detective Warrant officer Thabana of Ficksburg Family, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
“No matter how we view crime against women and children, the fact remains that any form of crime is punishable and perpetrators are definitely brought to book and justice is served. “said Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, the Free State Provincial Commissioner.
