JUSTICE SERVED, TWO SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS DIRECT IMPRISONMENT

Phuthaditjhaba: 19 September 2024- The National Prosecuting Authority together with Phuthaditjhaba Family, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit have sentenced two accused persons on separate incidents to total of 14 years direct imprisonment for charges of rape and assault with intent to cause grievously bodily harm.

Background:

On 3 March 2023 the 12-year-old teenage girl from Namahadi Village was playing with her toys at her parental place outside the house when the accused person, Molefe Kamohelo (21) called her to come and help him to count the money.

She went to the accused’s place and they both counted the money.After counting the money the accused called the victim to his bedroom and raped her. The accused was found guilty and sentenced to direct 8 years imprisonment by Phuthaditjhaba Regional court on count of rape.

On 12 September 2024, the Makwane Village mother of a four-year-old girl was sentenced to effective six years of direct imprisonment on charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm Phuthaditjhaba Regional court.

On 24 March 2024, the professional nurse at the local hospital was on duty when a minor of four years old was admitted at the hospital with injuries. She asked the mother what happened and said the child had fallen from the tree. She realized that the mother was lying because the child had cut wounds all over the body. She asked the child what happened, and the child told her that she had been assaulted by her mother after dishing herself. The matter was brought to the attention of the Department of Social Development and Phuthaditjhaba Family, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
