POLICE RESCUE AN ELDERLY WOMAN FROM COLD WATER IN PHUTHADITJHABA

PHUTHADITJHABA: 09 September 2024: – Swift police response, after being alerted by the community, saved the life of a 63-year-old woman who was found floating in the river.

On 9 September 2024 at about 05:45, police in Phuthaditjhaba were summoned to Namahadi after an elderly woman was seen floating in the river near an old single bridge.

The elderly woman was seen floating face-up by members and was rescued from the chilling water by Sergeant Teboho Selebano and Constable Palesa Mokoena. Sergeant Moleko Mabe, a SAPS learner diver of Phuthaditjhaba Client Service Centre, also came to assist the members.

Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene and the old lady was transported to the Elizabeth Ross Hospital in a stable condition.  

She was walking at night and ended up in the water hours before she was rescued by the police.
