QWAQWA Pickleball Tournament

Pickleball tournaments are growing in South Africa.  The game first started in Memel but now people from various places love this sport and they are interested in it. On Freedom Day the team from Memel, supported by SheWinS, revived and renovated the old tennis pitch at Manontsha School. They patched and covered holes to prevent grass to grow, and for the court to be proper. The Court was perfect and clean by the end of the day.

Principal of Manontsha School, Mrs. P. Nhlapho was happy and welcoming.  She also showed her school library to the visitors and SheWinS donated boxes of age-appropriate books for the learners.

Everyone enjoyed the nature and beauty of QwaQwa, especially the beautiful mountains.

The court is now smooth and everything is going according to plan.  It was the first time for people in QwaQwa to experience Pickleball.

Chief Director of South Africa’s National Treasury, Pule Setai and the MMC of Sports were there, and each took part in the tournament, along with Principal Nhlapo.

Everything went well and people were interested. Memel twelve year olds Thando and Neo showcase their talents and people were happy for them.

The Memel team will return to paint the permanent courts.

We look forward to the return of our brothers and sisters as we turn Thabo Mofutsanyana District into a hotbed for pickleball.
