Vusimuzi Gwebu, Thabang Dlamini and Nomvula Msimanga, young residents of Vrede are about to start a project in their hometown of Vrede. The aim of this project is to help children in Vrede to stay away from drugs and instead engage in positive and fun activities. As concern members of the Community, Vusimuzi and his team noticed that increasing trend of children getting into drugs at young age and joining gangsterism is becoming the norm in Thembalihle, so they believe that they can make a different by providing kids with a safe and engaging alternative.
The project that they are proposing is a weekly Saturday programme that will offer various games and activities for children to participate in. This programme will not only provide a fun and healthy outlet for children but they will spend their time together and through this it will also help to cultivated a sense of society and camaraderie amongst them.
At present Vusimuzi and his team hope to procure funding from Phumelela Local Municipality to support this project, as it will play a crucial role in terms of fighting drugs and crime. This praiseworthy programme is sure to have a lasting impact on lives of the children in the society, and it should be supported wholeheartedly by government and all of the community, as it is to everybody’s advantage.
