Disaster Averted Through Honesty and Co-operation

On Thursday the SAPS in Memel were made aware by an eye-witness of items being dumped into the river from the R34. Upon questioning it turned out that the goods were items past their sell-by date and the person dumping it was a well known local trader. Upon being approached however, he admitted that it had been his workers who had done it.

The positive part of it is that the municipality promptly dispatched some employees together and CWP and EWPW workers who assisted the police and workers of the accused person in cleaning up the problem. Not only had a possible ecological disaster been averted, but the plastic dumped into the river could have clogged up the municipal water-pump, pumping water to the town dam which would have impacted negatively upon the water supply to the whole of Memel and Zamani.

Furthermore the good news emanating from this is not only people being vigilant to observe and report wrongdoings, but also the prompt action of all parties, the public, the SAPS as well as the Municipal workers.

Other items were also retrieved like a bag of sheepskin, old tyres and other miscellaneous items.

This is a positive step for Memel and Zamani, which bodes well for the future.
